Leviticus

The book of Exodus records the construction of the sacred tabernacle or tent. This was to be the worship center for God's people, Israel. Leviticus is the sequel to Exodus, and, as such, it describes the ways in which the tabernacle was used.

Leviticus tells us about various animal sacrifices that were offered in the sanctuary. The book of Leviticus also discusses the feasts of:

  • Passover
  • Pentecost
  • Ingathering
  • Trumpets
  • and the Day of Atonement.

There's a section on the institution of the priesthood. Then comes the story of two young priests. They broke the rules governing the ceremonies of the tabernacle, and disaster was the result.

The last part of Leviticus is mainly a series of rules and regulations. They cover a variety of situations, from dealing with diseases to getting along with the neighbors.

Of all the books Moses wrote, this one, the book of Leviticus, is probably the least read and the most neglected. But it's in this very book that we find some of the Bible's greatest treasures.
